With the development of relevant hardware and software technology, the perception and learning ability of robots are getting stronger and stronger. In this talk, we first introduce some recent applications of 3D LiDAR in the field of mobile robotics (including autonomous driving), some methods of processing LiDAR sensory data, and the limitations and possible countermeasures of the perception system based on this device. We then conduct some discussion on how mobile robots can achieve long-term autonomy through learning. We conclude with some insights based on our hand-on experience in hardware and software integration, decision-making, and system evaluation for modern service robots.
