Video Projection on Transparent Materials

    We propose a new coating for light projection on transparent materials that can open new possibilities for design. What we often struggle with is the lighting of clear glass. By definition, clear glass lets most of the light pass through. We have found a way to turn glass surfaces opaque or transparent by using ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence coating. In combination with a UVA light source, we can project the dynamic content onto a glass surface treated with a special coating that transforms the UVA light into visible light. The added benefit of such a coating is that it can be applied to any organically shaped surface using a spray gun, not just flat surfaces. Another advantage is that the light source is nearly invisible to the human eye, especially with a UV light pass-through filter. We have created a prototype with a modified overhead projector to measure the light characteristics and documented the steps to reproduce our results.

    Základní důvody, které často vedou muzea k 3D digitalizaci, jsou využití pro vědu a výzkum, ochranu a restaurování či prezentaci v online prostředí. V tomto případě má 3D digitalizace zaručeně své místo, protože odbourává problémy s opotřebením předmětů a díky 3D prohlížení je možné s objekty jakkoliv otáčet, přibližovat si je či poslat kolegovi na druhý konec světa. Méně už je řešena otázka uchování takto vzniklých dat, která jsou často objemnější a ve specifických formátech a souborech, narozdíl od výstupů běžné digitalizace. Kromě zmiňovaných tradičních způsobů mají 3D digitalizáty velký potenciál využití v oblasti 3D tisku, produktovém designu, virtuální a rozšířené realitě, vzdělávání a zejména kreativních průmyslů.

Haptic interface for spatial audio web player

    Previously we have developed a spatial audio player for the web, a live demo is available online at www.tricktheear.eu. The player was originally developed with mouse, touch, and tilt inputs for pc or mobile respectively. Today we are introducing a new way to control the player, thanks to the tracking of fiducial markers printed on physical objects. Users can move virtual audio sources by manipulating small-scale objects on the table with real-time audio feedback - see video documentation at https://youtu.be/J-3PNNGA3LE. Tracking data can also be streamed to remote servers in real-time to enable live performance. Our intended use-case is a live concert or interactive installation, where the performer can intuitively manipulate spatial audio rendering. While using a haptic interface, users can simultaneously make eye contact with the audience or focus on different tasks. The proposed Haptic interface is also very intuitive to understand both for the user and the audience. Furthermore, we are also publishing marker tracking software as a standalone application that can be used for other unrelated use-cases.

Spatial audio music player for web

    Spatial audio offers new expressive means to music composers. Spatial audio technology is well supported in web browsers for desktop and mobiles platforms alike [1]. However, the spatial audio is only marginally represented in web music industry. Most of the online streaming platforms such as Spotify, YouTube or Soundcloud use predominantly stereo format for playback. We propose a new easy to use web-based spatial audio player. We also propose spatial audio encoding using existing audio codecs and discuss the practical implementation. Evaluation of the player was conducted using qualitative user research and by logging measurable data during listening. We aim to democratize the use of spatial audio on the web for non-expert users.

    We have built an active 3D display made from 10500 RGB LEDs arranged in an organic oval shape. The display serves as a canvas for users to draw in 3D space equipped with a special controller. Besides, the 3D drawing capability display also offers stand-alone dynamic light scenes.
