Anotation:

The course is focused on advanced sensors and data communication principles within heterogeneous automotive networks. It especially deals with modern wideband automotive sensors communication over the internal vehicle communication infrastructure.

Study targets:

The course is focused on advanced sensors and data communication principles within heterogeneous automotive networks. It concern especially about modern wideband automotive sensors with the internal vehicle communication infrastructure.

Content:

Sensor principles (camera, radar, LIDAR, ultrasonic …) are described together with their data communication requirements. Technologies for in-vehicle networking (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet) are introduced together with algorithms for traffic scheduling, time synchronization and QoS for real-time communication. Automotive specific EMC aspects of distributed systems are discussed.

Course outlines:

1. Automotive distributed systems - the concept
2. Camera-based sensors - functional principles, applications, in-camera processing, data communication
3. Radar sensors - functional principles, applications, internal data processing, data communication
4. LIDAR sensors - functional principles, applications, internal data processing, data communication
5. Ultrasonic sensors - functional principles, applications, internal data processing, data communication
6. Special sensors (knocking, rain, body gesture …) - functional principles, applications, internal data processing, data communication
7. In-vehicle communication infrastructure - principles
8. Controller Area Network (CAN), network cluster design, scheduling
9. Local Interconnect Network (LIN) network cluster design, scheduling
10. FlexRay network cluster design, scheduling
11. Automotive Ethernet
12. Audio/Video Bridging, Time Sensitive Networks
13. Time synchronization, synchronous and isochronous streaming
14. Testing and EMC of automotive distributed systems

Exercises outline:

1 - 7 weeks: Project 1 - design of a simulation environment for the selected automotive sensor. 8 - 14 weeks: Project 2 - design of the in-vehicle communication system with specific constraints
