Period products are free at FEE CTU

For graduates For students For applicants For employees

Students and employees at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) are entering the new academic year 2025/2026 with greater comfort. Women's restrooms now feature boxes with period products available for free use.

"In the case of FEE CTU, the so-called menstrual emergency kit is primarily a tool for ensuring the social comfort of menstruating women, so we are dealing more with unexpected bleeding or forgotten menstrual aids," said faculty ombudswoman Dr. Zuzana Labudová.

Menstrual emergency supplies can be found in Dejvice in toilets A4-s112, A4-15, B2-29, A3-313, and G1-118. At Karlovo náměstí, they are located in rooms A-219, A-410, E-28, E-103, and G-106.

According to Dr. Labudová, this is also a way to support female students and employees in difficult economic situations, because unlike some European countries, the Czech Republic has not yet managed to move menstrual products to the reduced VAT rate, which applies to medical supplies and other hygiene products.

"Personally, I see this as unfair, because menstrual products are simply a necessity for half the population, and at least a tax reduction, if not zero tax, would be the right step. However, I believe that, just as menstrual products will be available free of charge in Czech primary and secondary schools from January, sooner or later this measure will also apply to universities," added Ombudswoman Zuzana Labudová.

FEE contributes to a fairer environment

FEE CTU improves student comfort and does not wait for systemic solutions, such as in Scotland, where the Period Products Act has been in force for three years. This law ensures universal free access to menstrual products in public buildings.

Dr. Zuzana Labudová is the first ombudswoman at FEE CTU. She took office in September 2024 and has since been helping to create a favorable working and studying environment. Anyone who feels they have been discriminated against or has been the victim of bullying or other inappropriate behavior can contact her. A description of when and how to contact the public ombudsman is available on the FEE website.

Dr. Labudová presented her priorities for her term as ombudswoman in an interview, which you can also read on our website.
