Registration for the Robotic Competition for High Schools is open! This Year’s theme is Inspired by a Famous Video game

For applicants

Are you a high school student interested in robotics? Sign up for the autumn round of the Robotic Competition! Registration opened on September 22 and will run until October 19. In Robotic Competition, three-member teams program robots built from LEGO Mindstorms kits and the Brian kit, developed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU. This year’s theme is inspired by the well-known video game Tetris.

"The task will be to build and program a robot that, within a 90-second time limit, autonomously moves as many Tetris pieces as possible into a yellow-marked square. From these pieces, the team will then try to assemble the largest possible square or columns," explained the main organizer of the competition, Dr. Martin Hlinovský from the Department of Control Engineering at the CTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering, who is also the creator of the Brian kit. During the contest, teams are not allowed to assist their robots via voice, Bluetooth, or other communication channels. However, Dr. Hlinovský noted that black guiding lines will make navigation on the playing field easier. Detailed instructions for the task will be published on the Robotic Competition website by October 6, but students can already find key information there about team organization and the event itself.

The four competition rounds will take place on November 18, 19, 20, and 21 in the Zenger Auditorium of the CTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Karlovo náměstí. From each round, eight of the best teams will advance to the finals, which will be held on Friday, December 12, in the same auditorium. The jury may also award up to eight additional teams with so-called wild cards. Attractive prizes are at stake, and the best contestants will also gain an advantage in the entrance exams to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. All participants will gain valuable experience, contacts, and perhaps even new friends.

Robotic Competition is held under the auspices of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU and its general partner, BTL Medical Development. Other partners include MathWorks, HUMUSOFT, Škoda Auto, FANUC, SICK, Strand, and Applifting.
