On November 16, two exceptional students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague received awards from the Josef, Marie, and Zdenka Hlávka Foundation at the castle in Lužany near Přeštice. The awards from the oldest Czech foundation are intended for talented students up to 33 years of age who demonstrate exceptional abilities and creative thinking in their field. This year, Vendula Hrnčířová from the Medical Electronics and Bioinformatics program and Dominika Burešová, a doctoral student from the Department of Cybernetics, were successful.

Prof. Daniel Mayer Award for Vendula Hrnčířová

Vendula Hrnčířová received an award for the best student of electrical engineering faculties for her work in the field of plasmonically active nanoparticles for biomedicine. She has been conducting research in Prof. Rezek's group at the Department of Physics since her bachelor's thesis and continues to do so intensively in her master's studies.

Vendula Hrnčířová has already presented her results at prestigious international conferences – she lectured at the International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials in Dresden and presented a poster at the Hasselt Diamond Workshop in Belgium. She also spoke about her research at the OPJAK SenDISo project symposium at the Czech Academy of Sciences. She was the first author to publish an article in the journal Diamond and Related Materials, and her latest work has just been published in Advanced Materials Interfaces.

Dominika Burešová receives the Josef Hlávka Award

Mathematics is not only a field of study for Dominika Burešová, but also her passion. The winner of several national and international awards, including the "Nobel Prize for Juniors" – the international competition The Global Undergraduate Awards 2023 – is now continuing her doctoral studies in the Machine Learning group at the Department of Cybernetics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague.

She entered the field of quantum logic research during her bachelor's studies in the Open Informatics program under the supervision of Prof. Pavel Pták and in collaboration with Prof. Mirek Navara. She is the lead author of a number of papers published in high-impact international journals and has also presented the results of her work at many Czech and international conferences. She is a member of the prestigious International Quantum Structures Association and is also involved in evaluation and review activities—she reviews for some of the leading journals in the field, such as Order, and in 2025 she sat on the jury of The Global Undergraduate Awards in the Mathematics & Physics category. In addition to science, she is interested in classical music, literature, and sports.

Tradition, talent, and creative thinking

Every year, the Josef, Marie, and Zdenka Hlávka Foundation honors the best students and graduates from Prague universities, Brno University of Technology, and young scientists from the Czech Academy of Sciences. The award confirms the high level of scientific work and talent of both our students.

We warmly congratulate Vendula and Dominika and wish them many more successes in their research and studies!
