Strong presentation by FEE CTU alongside leaders from Europe and Taiwan
Prof. Jiří Jakovenko, Dr. Vladimír Janíček, Dr. Dalibor Barri, and Ing. Jiří Maier spoke on behalf of FEE in professional sections devoted to integrated circuit design, machine learning-based methods for backend design, and the results of Czechia-Taiwan research projects within the CTU TSRI Joint Research Centre. All current joint projects between FEE and Taiwanese universities focusing on advanced design methods, chip layout, and new hybrid technologies were also presented.
Participation in the event was all the more valuable because the main partners of the forum were TSRI, imec, and EUROPRACTICE, organizations that define the future direction of European and Taiwanese semiconductor research. Our researchers thus presented their project results alongside the most important players in the field.
Motivation for students: Europe as a strong global partner in chip technologies
Students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, mainly from the master's program in Electronics and Communications with a specialization in microelectronics, rated their participation very positively. The event offered them inspiration and a better idea of how dynamically the field of chip design is developing not only globally but also in Europe. They also learned about the ongoing construction of a new factory by the Taiwanese company TSMC in Dresden and about plans to strengthen European chip self-sufficiency. They had the opportunity to meet manufacturers, developers, and partners who are shaping the future of the chip industry in Europe.
"At TECIF, our students were able to see for themselves that chip design is a topic that resonates across continents and that without innovation in chip technology, there would be no innovation in other technical and computer fields. For many of them, participating in this event was highly motivating—confirming that what they are studying is of enormous importance for the future of the European technology industry," says Prof. Jiří Jakovenko.
Continuing successful cooperation with Taiwan
FEE CTU has long been an active partner of Taiwanese universities and research institutions. The CTU TSRI Joint Research Center, which opened this year, connects Czech and Taiwanese teams in the development of new chips and design methods. Joint projects and professional events, such as summer schools and international workshops, contribute to the rapid growth of Czech know-how in the field of microelectronics.
"Cooperation with Taiwanese partners is strategic for us. The TECIF forum has once again shown that joint projects bring real results and create space for further interconnection of the European and Asian ecosystems in the field of semiconductors," adds Dr. Vladimír Janíček.
The TECIF Forum also has symbolic significance for the FEE CTU – its first edition was held in 2024 in Prague, where the faculty acted as the main academic partner. The success of the Prague event gave rise to a tradition that now continues in other European cities.
