The quartet will perform in the following line-up: František Souček (1st violin), Petr Střížek (2nd violin), Petr Holman (viola), and Vladimír Fortin (cello). The programme features works by three pillars of Czech music – Josef Suk, Leoš Janáček, and Antonín Dvořák.
The evening will open with Suk’s Meditation on the Old Czech Chorale “Saint Wenceslas”, followed by Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1 “Inspired by the Kreutzer Sonata”. The concert will conclude with Dvořák’s String Quartet in F major, Op. 96, “American”, one of the most frequently performed works in the chamber music repertoire. The concert will be accompanied by commentary from Assoc. Prof. Martin Kasík, who will guide the audience through the musical context of the individual pieces.
