This time, volunteers participating in the Mapathon at FEL CTU will be mapping the province of Ouaddai in eastern Chad, where Médecins Sans Frontières teams are helping local communities and refugees from neighboring Sudan. The event will start at 6 p.m. in classroom T2:C3-337, and advance registration is required via this form.
Participants only need to bring their own laptop, charger, and ideally a mouse. Mapping will be done in Java OpenStreetMap Editor (JOSM). Experienced "mappers" as well as complete beginners are welcome to attend. At the beginning of the meeting, there will be training on how to use the editor. The Mapathon will last approximately two and a half hours, during which refreshments will be provided.
In addition, an interesting discussion awaits Mapathon participants right at the start. Tomáš Bendl, head of communications at the Czech office of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), will talk to the mappers about his experiences from the January mission in Sudan.
The Mapathon at FEL CTU is organized by Médecins Sans Frontières and volunteers from the Missing Maps community in cooperation with the student association BEST Prague. This is the second Mapathon to be held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague.
