Czech Mathematical Society Award for Young Researchers at the Department of Mathematics

For graduates For students For applicants For employees

The Czech Mathematical Society awarded this year’s Czech Mathematical Society Award to two young researchers at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague.

Associate Professor Zdeněk Mihula received the Czech Mathematical Society Award for a body of work on the optimal behavior of operators on function spaces.

Dr. Ruben Medina (a graduate of the Mathematical Engineering doctoral program) received the Czech Mathematical Society Award for a series of works on the geometry of Banach spaces.

This award is a significant national honor, granted once every four years to a maximum of four works in the fields of pure and applied mathematics, specifically to young researchers. The fact that it was awarded this year to two laureates from the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEL) of the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), in different areas of research, is a welcome recognition of the department’s scientific work. In its 24-year history, this award has come to FEL ČVUT for the very first time.

The awards were presented at a ceremony during the Conference of Czech Mathematicians, which took place in Teplice from May 27 to 29, 2026.
