The event is being held to mark 80 years of tradition in film, radio, and television education at CTU and AMU (1946–2026). Throughout the day, participants will try their hand at working with sound in a professional environment, familiarize themselves with the entrance exam tasks used in the study of sound production and music direction, and gain an overview of career opportunities in the rapidly developing audiovisual industry.
A Behind-the-Scenes Look at HAMU
The program begins at 9:30 a.m. with a guided tour of HAMU’s sound studios. Visitors will learn about the teaching of sound production and music direction and will also visit other representative spaces of the faculty, including the Bohuslav Martinů Hall.
Hands-on workshops led by experts
The main part of the program will feature a series of hands-on workshops from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants will be able to choose between a focus on sound production or music direction and try their hand at tasks inspired by the admissions process for the bachelor’s program.
For example, they will work with multiple tracks of musical and dramatic recordings, create their own sound compositions, combine spoken word with music and ambient sounds, or add sound to photographs intended for a future exhibition.
The workshop will be led by leading experts from both the professional and academic fields, including Tomáš Zikmund, Ondřej Urban, Aleš Dvořák, Sylva Stejskalová, and Miloslav Novák, who works at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) and at Czech Radio.
Interestingly, the resulting sound-enhanced photographs will subsequently be exhibited in the prestigious spaces of HAMU or ČVUT.
From Tape to Theremin
The afternoon program will explore the history and present of sound technologies. Participants will have the opportunity to view historical recording technologies, learn more about working with audio tape, and try their hand at playing the theremin—one of the world’s first electronic musical instruments.
The workshop will conclude with an interactive quiz on the development of sound media and recording formats, which visitors will be able to examine and try out hands-on.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM at HAMU, Malostranské náměstí 13, Prague 1.
Participation is free for high school and college students. Capacity is limited to 10 participants in the sound production section and 10 participants in the music direction section, so the organizers recommend registering as soon as possible.
