Invitation to the Habilitation Lecture of Dr. hab. Mgr. Maksym Buryi, Ph.D.

For employees

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague invites members of the academic and professional community to the habilitation lecture and defence of the habilitation thesis of Dr. hab. Mgr. Maksym Buryi, Ph.D., from the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 at 13:00 in lecture hall T2:D3-209 in Dejvice.

The habilitation lecture, entitled “Engineering of ultrafast scintillating ZnO nano- and microrods for the time-of-flight applications”, will focus on the development and optimisation of zinc oxide-based scintillators with controlled nano- and microstructures. The research addresses, among other topics, the effects of doping, preparation conditions and post-growth treatment on the properties of ZnO nano- and microstructures.

Dr. hab. Mgr. Maksym Buryi, Ph.D., works at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where he heads the Department of Plasma-Chemical Technologies. His research focuses on solid-state physics and materials research, particularly the optical and spectroscopic properties of materials. He is also engaged in plasma chemistry, particularly plasma synthesis of functional nanomaterials and the conversion of waste streams into hydrogen, syngas, and carbon nanoparticles. He has also gained international research experience at Università di Milano-Bicocca in Italy and the West University of Timișoara in Romania.

He is the author or co-author of more than one hundred scientific publications. His research interests include scintillating materials, luminescence and the properties of ZnO nano- and microstructures. His published work also includes research into hydrothermally grown molybdenum-doped ZnO nanorods as a novel type of ultrafast nanoscintillator.

In addition to his research activities, Maksym Buryi is also involved in teaching. He has taught at CTU in Prague since 2019. In the winter semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, he began teaching the course Applied Spin Physics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He has also gained teaching experience at Jan Długosz University in Poland and the West University of Timișoara in Romania.
