Computer scientists from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU and the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU) have been ranked among the best European institutions in the fields of informatics and robotics in the international CSRankings.
They achieved their greatest success in the field of Computer Vision, where they ranked 6th in Europe in the 2020–2025 evaluation, and in the field of Robotics, where they ranked 8th. They also achieved significant rankings in other areas:
● Economics & Computation – 22nd place
● Computer Graphics – 40th place
● Artificial Intelligence – 46th place
A total of 227 universities made it into the European rankings. In the overall evaluation of all areas, CTU ranked 59th–74th as the best-rated Czech university.
CSRankings is widely regarded as a respected and transparent tool for evaluating research performance in the field of computer science. Unlike traditional university rankings, which combine multiple factors (e.g., reputation, funding, or number of students), CSRankings focuses exclusively on the scientific output of institutions, which it evaluates based on the quality and quantity of publications in top scientific journals.
The best-rated computer scientists in the Czech Republic work at CTU
The individual ranking Research.com, which is based on the H-index, number of citations and publications until November 27, 2024, also confirms CTU's exceptional position in the field of computer science.
The highest-ranked Czech computer scientist has long been Prof. Jiří Matas from the Department of Cybernetics at FEE CTU. CTU also dominated the top of the national rankings:
● 2nd place: Assoc. Prof. Josef Šivic (CIIRC CTU)
● 3rd place: Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Pajdla (CIIRC CTU and FEE CTU)
Other researchers from FEL and CIIRC CTU ranked among the top ten in the Czech Republic:
● 6th place: Dr. Torsten Sattler (CIIRC CTU and FEE CTU)
● 10th place: Dr. Tomáš Mikolov (CIIRC CTU until March 2025)
Representatives of CTU also feature prominently in the rest of the ranking:
● 11th place: Prof. Ondřej Chum (FEE CTU)
● 14th place: Dr. Josef Urban (CIIRC CTU)
● 16th place: Assoc. Prof. Martin Saska (FEE CTU)
● 20th place: Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Krajník (FEE CTU)
Of the total of 27 scientists from Czech academic institutions included in the ranking, one third work at FEE CTU or CIIRC CTU, which once again confirms the leading position of these two parts of the Czech Technical University in the field of informatics and robotics in the Czech Republic.
