CTU Battery Day 2025: Experts from FEE and Scandinavia will discuss current challenges in energy storage

For students For employees

The Battery & Energy Storage Systems (B&ESS-ČVUT) research group is organizing a professional seminar, ČVUT Battery Day 2025, on Tuesday, September 23, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague. In addition to a lecture by Dr. Václav Knap from the Department of Electrical Engineering at CTU, the seminar will feature presentations by international experts. Those interested can register for free using the form.

Tuesday afternoon will be filled with lectures by experts on key topics that define the field of batteries and energy storage, starting at 2:00 p.m. in room T2:C4-80 at FEE CTU in Dejvice. The entire program will be held in English.

In his lecture, Dr. Václav Knap, head of the B&ESS-CTU research group, will introduce participants to the potential of sodium-ion technologies. "There is a lot of talk about sodium these days, with some expectations being overly ambitious. We would therefore like to present our view of the current situation and describe our work, which focuses primarily on the use of sodium-ion batteries in low-temperature applications," said Dr. Knap.

The afternoon program will be opened by Benjamin P. Wilson from Aalto University in Finland, who specializes in hydrometallurgical battery recycling. In his first lecture, he will focus on how to address challenges in this area. He will then follow up with the topic of electrochemical reduction in an aqueous environment for battery surface treatment.

The second foreign speaker will be Daniel-Ioan Stroe from Aalborg University in Denmark, who is not visiting FEL for the first time. He shared the results of his research at the Battery Day conference last year and the year before. This year, his lecture will focus on how to extend the life of lithium-ion batteries using revolutionary charging protocols.

Program:

●     14:00–14:05 → Introduction

●     14:05–14:45 → Benjamin P. Wilson (Aalto university, Finsko): BATCircle3.0: Pyro- and Hydrometallurgical Recycling vs. Targets of Battery Regulation?

●     14:45–15:00 → Pause

●     15:00–15:40 → Benjamin P. Wilson (Aalto university, Finsko): Aqueous Electrochemical Reduction Approaches for Functionalized Surfaces

●     15:40–15:55 → Pause

●     15:55–16:35 → Daniel-Ioan Stroe (Aalborg university, Dánsko): Revolutionizing Lithium-Ion Battery Charging: Innovative Protocols to Enhance Performance and Extend Lifespan

●     16:35–16:50 → Pause
