Increase interest in the electrical and IT fields and collaboration on innovation. The new alliance of electrical engineering and IT faculties has clear objectives

Sixteen Czech and Slovak electrical engineering and IT faculties founded the Alliance for Electrical Engineering and Informatics (Alliance) on Wednesday 15 May. The aim of the Alliance will be, among other things, to increase the interest of secondary school students in the electrical engineering courses on offer and to coordinate strategic research projects with each other.

According to the latest statistics, there is a shortage of more than 10,000 professionals in the field of electrical engineering or computer science in the Czech Republic and Slovakia alone. Their shortage is already paralysing and threatening the development of strategic industry. The newly established Alliance for Electrical and Computer Engineering will therefore look for ways to stimulate the interest of male and female applicants and thus increase the number of graduates in these socially critical professions.

The Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU, Prof. Petr Páta, is convinced that closer cooperation between the faculties of electrical engineering and computer science will lead to further development of the field. "Electrical and computer engineering education is crucial not only for the domestic industry, but its importance is also growing for other disciplines and the whole Czech society as technology increasingly influences the shape of other professions," said Prof. Petr Páta. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU is ready to contribute in a way that is appropriate to its size, number of students and employees and its key importance in the field of research and development.

The alliance brings together and enables joint use of the unique resources and technologies available to its members. The Alliance wants to be a motivator for new investors to come to the Czech Republic and Slovakia with its competences and modern equipment of individual faculties. These will contribute to the transfer of cutting-edge technologies (e.g. semiconductor chips) and the creation of new highly qualified jobs.

The founders of the Alliance are sixteen Czech and Slovak faculties or universities working in the field of electrical engineering, computer science and cybernetics. "By signing the Memorandum we clearly declare our desire for cooperation, a unified approach and a systematic move towards European leadership, both in the field of research and development and in the field of education," added the President of the Alliance and Dean of FEL ZČU Zdeněk Peroutka. Vladimír Kutiš, dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at STU in Bratislava, was elected Vice President of the Alliance.

The sixteen founding members of the Alliance are the following faculties:

Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen
Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague
