"The Czech Semiconductor Centre is the result of excellent cooperation across academic, industrial and public spheres. FEE CTU brings to it not only top experts and infrastructure, but also enthusiasm for educating a new generation of specialists in the field of chip design and manufacturing," said the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU, Prof. Petr Páta, who represented FEE CTU at the opening at Brno University of Technology.
"Research and teaching in the field of microelectronics at FEE CTU help to develop key competencies that will be essential for the future development of the Czech and European semiconductor industry. Our graduates are finding employment in small innovative companies and multinational technology giants," added Prof. Jiří Jakovenko from the Department of Microelectronics and Vice Dean of FEL CTU in Prague, who will manage the activities of the Czech Semiconductor Centre in the field of education.
FEE CTU participates in the Centre's activities as a natural partner with a long tradition in micro- and nanoelectronics research. In particular, the Laboratory of Nanoelectric Technologies will play an important role - a unique workplace equipped with state-of-the-art technologies for the design, characterisation and testing of nanoelectronic structures. The laboratory enables advanced research in the field of atomic layers, optical lithography or plasma etching, for example, and also serves to teach students at all levels of study. Both researchers from the Department of Microelectronics and students benefit from its capabilities, gaining hands-on experience with high-tech equipment used in the semiconductor industry. PhD students in particular are involved in the projects, but also students of bachelor and master studies.
FEE CTU has also been involved in international cooperation for a long time, including with Taiwanese research institutions and universities. In cooperation with Taiwan's TSRI, the CTU TSRI Joint Research Centre has been opened, where mutual research projects with Taiwanese partners will focus on the development of new chips. FEE CTU will contribute to this activity with its capacity, research facilities and experience in organizing professional summer schools and workshops, such as last weekend's ACDRC Smart EDA & Analog Circuit Design Workshop: From Fundamentals to Optimization, which featured lectures by leading experts from Taiwan's National Central University as well as from FEE CTU's Department of Microelectronics. In addition to the experts from FEE CTU, professors from leading Taiwanese universities such as National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Central University and National Tsing Hua University have participated in the workshops.
FEE CTU will thus play a crucial role in fulfilling the objectives of the Czech Semiconductor Centre, especially in the field of education, research and innovation. Its involvement represents a significant contribution to the Czech National Semiconductor Strategy, the European Chips for Europe initiative and the global ambitions of Czech science and industry.
