The lecture will focus on the issue of steganography, i.e. the hidden transmission of information through inconspicuous objects such as digital images, video, or text. Assoc. Prof. Pevný will present a method based on game theory, which for the first time systematically enables the design of steganographic algorithms and demonstrates unprecedented resilience against modern detection techniques as well as high adaptability to new trends in the field.
Assoc. Prof. Ing. Tomáš Pevný, Ph.D. graduated from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of CTU in Prague and earned his doctorate at Binghamton University, USA, in 2004–2008. From 2008 to 2009 he worked at the University of Grenoble, and subsequently at the Department of Cybernetics, CTU FEE (2009–2011). Since 2019, he has been serving as Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, CTU FEE.
Beyond academia, he has gained extensive experience in industry – from 2012 he worked as a Senior Researcher at Cisco and since 2019 at Avast. His research focuses on machine learning in the context of computer security. He has published in prestigious journals and conferences, is the author of several patents, and his work has repeatedly been recognized at international forums.
He has led numerous GAČR grants as well as international projects (e.g. EU Horizon) and has supervised PhD students at CTU and abroad. In teaching, he focuses primarily on courses in computer security, initiated and successfully introduced several new courses at CTU FEE, and has supervised many Master’s and doctoral theses.
The committee highly values his extensive research experience from international institutions and industry, unique in the context of CTU. His scientific work is of world-class quality, as evidenced by thousands of citations of his publications; in terms of citation impact, Assoc. Prof. Pevný ranks among the top researchers of the Faculty. He has also demonstrated a strong ability to propose fundamental research topics and to secure funding for them. The committee therefore recommends appointing Assoc. Prof. Ing. Tomáš Pevný, Ph.D., as Professor in the field of Cybernetics and Robotics.
