Ing. Jan Ševic and Ing. Kamila Houšková Receive Awards for Research and Academic Excellence at the #CZECHoftheFuture Conference

For students

Two graduates of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE) received awards for their research and academic achievements at the #CZECHoftheFuture conference, held at the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU). The TECH Talent of the Czech Republic 2025 award went to Ing. Jan Ševic, a graduate of the Open Informatics program at CTU FEE. The TOP student of the Czech Republic 2025 title was awarded to Ing. Kamila Houšková, also a graduate of Open Informatics.

"I was recognized for my overall résumé, which included academic results, teaching activities, publications, and competition successes. The work that Dominika Burešová, Kamila Houšková, and I were recognized for in the mathematical SVOČ competition formed a significant part of my résumé, but the award also reflected other achievements and activities,” explained Ing. Jan Ševic. "Since the category was Talent of the Year, factors such as my Mensa IQ test score or membership in the honor society Upsilon Pi Epsilon might also have played a role," he added.

Ing. Ševic is currently a PhD student in the Cybernetics and Robotics program at CTU FEE, working at CIIRC CTU in the Industrial Informatics Group led by Assoc. Prof. Přemysl Šůcha, within Prof. Zdeněk Hanzálek’s optimization group.

In the aforementioned competition, the trio—then still master’s students—succeeded earlier this year with their paper "Reichenbach’s Causal Completeness of Quantum Probability Spaces." The work addressed a long-standing open question in the field of common causes of phenomena in quantum structures. The research was supervised by Professors Mirko Navara and Pavel Pták from the Machine Learning Research Group at the Department of Cybernetics, FEE.

As for what the TECH Talent title brings, Ing. Ševic said: "The award opens up various opportunities – including media exposure for the recipients’ projects and activities. From my point of view, the greatest reward is the chance to interact with amazing people striving to move our country forward, and the real opportunity to contribute to that vision," added the doctoral student.

Ing. Kamila Houšková, upon receiving the TOP Student of the Year award, said it brought her joy and a sense of satisfaction from her work. "The #CZECHoftheFuture conference was full of interesting organizations and featured many presentations. I was pleasantly surprised by how many high school students attended," the graduate noted.

She also pointed out that she was recognized for a broad range of activities she pursued during her studies at CTU FEE. "The #CZECHoftheFuture conference has several subcategories. One of them is Education, and I believe the jury was most interested in my research in Professor Navara’s group, where I collaborated with Jan Ševic and Dominika Burešová. Other categories include Activity and Charity, where they were probably impressed by my involvement in the Erasmus Student Network (ESN CTU in Prague), where I have represented the club’s president since January," summarized Ing. Houšková.
