Comptence Testing Using Virtual Reality with Eye Tracking in Human Resources

  • Department: Department of Economics, Management and Humanities
  • Annotation:
The article describes an innovative method of testing competencies using eye tracking technology in virtual reality. The proposed solution allows to examine and evaluate competencies, in a similar way as using other psychodiagnostic methods. The advantage of this solution, compared to others, is mainly the possibility to uncover internal states and motives, which are the basis of observable human behavior, by means of eye movements. In addition, virtual reality makes it possible to simulate various situations, visual and auditory perceptions, so that one can react to them immediately as if one were in a real environment. The practical use of the tool is mainly in the selection or adaptation of new employees or the evaluation of existing employees, or to predict their potential failure or burnout syndrome.

Economic development is generally described by growing or by falling of GDP, inflation, unemployment and by other macroeconomic indicators. Substructures of the economic model, based on the symmetric input – output tables, are the individual economic sectors in the country. This table describes relationships between individual sectors and so, in the case of sudden changes in parameters, we can estimate what changes will happen in the whole economy. In this paper we focus on the changes in the economy caused by the change of electricity production, respectively the non-delivery to the distribution network.

Determining a strategy for problem solving based on eye movements

  • Department: Department of Economics, Management and Humanities
  • Annotation:
Abstract: Success in solving problems depends on the strategy that we choose when looking for the right solution. In identifying strategies, we used records of eye movements during test problems, inspired by Raven’s Progressive Matrices. The participants in research had to choose the right solution from 6 alternatives as part of 10 different problems. The results of the research showed that a strategy in which the person tested spends more time looking at the task itself (rather than the alternative solutions) is a more successful strategy. We can therefore predict success of resolution based on the ratio of time that we devote to the task before us to our interest in possible solutions.

Supply and use of products and input-output tables afford the most detailed view of common economy. They provide detailed present or future analysis of the process of production and the use of products (goods and services). The tables are more complex than other regular statistics and their composition is difficult. But the advantages are large-scale in despite of the required information. Supply and use tables provide consistent structure for balancing national accounts. Supply and use tables in combination with input-output tables set up the suitable fundaments for many different types of economic analysis.

Input-output analysis is powerful for modeling global economies or industries. The Leontiev Input – Output economic models show the relationships among different sectors of industry in an economy. These Input - Output models, whether closed or open Leontiev models, represent miscellaneous types of economies. It is possible to tell or forecast not only all sector development given economy, it is also possible forecast development of Gross domestic product by solving the Leontiev open models. Input - Output analysis is a valuable tool for GDP projections into the future.

According to Yoshimori, there are basic differences in the approach to company ownership in different geographical areas of the globe. These differences become even more visible during the period of economical decrease, when the need to decrease costs appears in front of owners and managements of companies. Cutting of personal costs becomes one of important topics in such moment. The option to down-size staff or to decrease costs by cutting-off wages/salaries while dismissing less staff (or dismissing no one in the best case) is one of the crucial decision in such moment. The approaches to the company ownership as well as future expectations are major criteria for such decision. In case the purely economical approach is implemented other non-economical relationships, such as historical experience of companies social standards and traditions are neglected quite often. Nevertheless these relationships can play (and in most cases even play) on of the major role for the decision process.

To understand the reason of a company existence in a specific region and a specific time enables the observer a deeper understanding of wider economical and social relations. This finally helps to understand the status of the society and its approach to the economy in general. Yoshimori [1] has shown a huge discrepancy in the understanding of "Whose Company Is It?" question in different areas over the world. (Tested countries were all countries with an open economy and market, but with a different historical and societal movement.) The goal of this text is to settle the current level of understanding of "firm ownership" and "a reason of a company existence" into these relations.
