In the article is presented a graphical tool (a Diamond) that enables to follow and quantify the success of government economic policy in a given country during several consecutive years. Its use is demonstrated on examples of four central European countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland). Its drawbacks are identified as well. That’s why in final part it is proposed to add another indicator into the multicriterial tool so that it could give better and more complex view on the results of government economic policy in a given country. This approach is illustrated on the example of the Czech Republic.

The presented paper is oriented towards the numerical analysis of the structure of the Gross Domestic Product from the point of view of the “Three-sector hypothesis” developed by Jean Fourastié and Colin Clark. The presented analysis comprises data of European Union area countries (27 countries) in the years 2006 and 2012 and investigates changes in shares of three production sectors with the increasing economic level of these countries. Special interest is devoted to the increasing share of the tertiary sector with the growth of the economic level of these countries. The huge tertiary sector is split into two subgroups - market and non-market services - in accordance with available Eurostat data. European area countries are grouped with regard to their economic level measured by the Gross Domestic Product per capita and the structure of GDP according to production sectors. The main structures of GDP of individual countries are presented graphically. Sources of the analysed topic are of two kinds. Theoretical conclusions are based mainly on the original works of Jean Fourastié and Colin Clark. Numerical data are taken from statistical sources of Eurostat and publications of the Czech Statistical Office.
