Applications of EM field in environmental industrial technologies

  • Branch of study: Electrical Engineering and Communications
  • Department: Department of Electromagnetic Field
    • Description:
The topic is focused on application of electromagnetic field for the environmental technology industry. The core of this work is analysis of the electromagnetic wave propagation in the selected materials for microwave processing and further optimization in order to reach homogeneous distribution of the absorbed EM power. Theoretical studies based on both analytical and numerical calculations will be then verified experimentally.

Applicators for microwave diagnostics in medicine

  • Branch of study: Electrical Engineering and Communications
  • Department: Department of Electromagnetic Field
    • Description:
In recent decades, attention has been paid to the interactions of electromagnetic (EM) fields with living organisms. In connection with this, various applications of microwave technologies in medicine are being developed. E.g. microwave hyperthermia has been used to treat cancer. Nowadays a great research efforts is being devoted to new medical diagnostic methods, such as e.g. microwave differential tomography. Research work within this dissertation topic will focus on studies of new principles and technologies which are ment for implementation of new types of applicators (resp. antennas) for microwave medical diagnostics. It will mean to study that elements of diagnostics systems which control propagation of EM fields into the diagnosed area of the patient body and contemporary sensing the EM fields scattered inside that area. In order to achieve the best possible properties of new microwave diagnostics systems (above all e.g. spatial resolution) characteristics of these applicators are to be studied and optimized. Part of this research work will be the study of reconstruction algorithms that allow the interpretation of measured results for medical diagnostics.
