Dissertation topics

Empirical and physics-based battery modeling

  • Branch of study: Electrical Engineering and Communications
  • Department: Department of Electrotechnology
    • Description:
Battery modeling is a tool for understanding their mechanisms, is necessary for predicting their behavior, and is an integral part of application design and use. Thus, this Ph.D. project aims for advanced and highly accurate battery modeling in the form of empirical and physics-based models, covering aspects of electrical, thermal, and degradation domains.

Performance, lifetime, and safety of batteries

  • Branch of study: Electrical Engineering and Communications
  • Department: Department of Electrotechnology
    • Description:
Nowadays, batteries are used as an energy storage in a wide range of applications: from portable electronics, over electromobility and aerospace, to grid energy storage systems, and their share at the market is expected to grow. Each application has its own requirements in terms of performance, lifetime, cost and safety. Thus, it is important to develop and to apply various techniques of testing, modelling and state estimation to help address these requirements. Consequently, this PhD work focus on understanding the battery behavior, facilitating their practical use and enabling new technological directions.
