Background: Public spaces are usually designed with respect to various patient populations, but not Parkinson's disease. The objective of this study was to explore what type of easily applicable visual cueing might be used in public spaces and some interiors to improve gait in people with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Thirty-two patients with freezing of gait walked an 8-meter track on 6 different floor patterns in single- and dual-task conditions in random sequence. The reference pattern was a virtual large transverse chessboard, and the other patterns differed either in size (small floor stones), orientation (diagonal), nature (real paving), regularity (irregular), or no pattern. Time, number of steps, velocity, step length, cadence, and dual-task effect were calculated. The number and total duration of freezing episodes were analyzed. Results: Virtual, large, transverse floor stones improve time (P = 0.0101), velocity (P = 0.0029), number of steps (P = 0.0291), and step length (P = 0.0254) in Parkinson's disease patients compared with walking on no pattern. Virtual floor stones were superior in time and velocity to the real ones. Transverse floor stones were better than diagonal, whereas regular pattern stones were superior to irregular in some gait parameters. Subjectively, the reference pattern was preferred to the irregular one and to no pattern. No direct effect on freezing of gait was observed. Conclusions: Parkinson's disease patients may benefit from floor patterns incorporating transverse oriented large rectangular visual cues. Because public space can be regulated with respect to people with medical conditions, the relevant legislative documents should be extended to allow for parkinsonian gait disorder. © 2019 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. © 2019 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society

Tools for Presenting Multimedia Performance Documentation Using 3D Visualisations

Within the project dedicated to the phenomenon of Laterna magika, tools and techniques for multimedia performances presentation and preservation were investigated, developed and applied. In order to present performances in their complexity and with respect to their historical context, a suitable data model had to be identified to build links between various documentation components with respect to existing standards and methods used by memory institutions. Being fragmented and incomplete, the existing documentation components were collected and digitized, the selected scenes were rebuilt in the form of 3D models. The actor's movement on stage was reconstructed and recorded using the motion capture system. For content management and presentation purposes, various tools were developed allowing for visualisations in VR environment and viewing/annotation of performance documentation components.

Multimedia performance documentation and preser-vation processes in digital domain mean a serious challenge asthere is a necessity to store and search through many data types(e.g. video, audio, text, images, generic documents and motiondata) while maintaining proper relations among all performancecomponents. Memory institutions express the need for appropri-ate data models and tools that allow for preserving complexityof a work preserved together with all metadata already createdin existing cataloguing systems. Additionally, the performancedocumentation should include a component describing actor’smovement on stage that can serve both for its reconstructionand presentation, moreover, its specific segments need to beidentified and documented/linked separately. In this paper, wediscuss existing models, suggest an adequate approach informedby existing data aggregation projects and standards, and evaluatemethods for documenting motion including search and segmen-tation algorithms. Based on actual needs and using the data fromLaterna Magica project aimed at national heritage preservation,we propose suitable data structures and an application for thecomplex documentation management and presentation intendedboth for professionals and the general public.

Special applications are developed in the area of virtual reality, multimedia communications and others where combinations of audio, video, 3D data are sent between two (or more) distant users which can interact with these data. A form of so exchanged information usually requires, among others, special forms of presentation. Thus stereoscopic and virtual reality visualization devices are used to present intricately structured information. There are situations where the presented information is to be rendered in real-time and transmitted to the remote user. In this case, the content is presented on a local visualization device (e.g. CAVE) being simultaneously sent to a remote device. The problem is, how to obtain the rendered data for transmission with minimal impact on the rendering and visualization process. In this paper, we present a method how to retrieve video stream from an arbitrary running OpenGL application, capturing every frame with minimal impact on performance.

This study considers the applicability of the risk based preservation strategies auditing in the Audiovisual Industry with respect to general standards and recommendations. To set the methodological framework, the paper describes how the OAIS reference archive model (ISO 14721:2003) could be applied to archives in audiovisual industry and how its key components relate to the corresponding structure of real production archives.
