As a result of increasing fossil fuel price and state-of-the-art technology, more and more residential and commercial consumers of electricity have been installing wind turbines. The motivation being to cut energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions. Purpose. The main goal of this work is developing a control scheme for a variable speed wind turbine generator in order to produce utmost power from varying wind types, and variable wind speed. Novelty. This research paper presents an IGBT power converter control scheme for active power in relation to wind speed and reactive power by adjusting Q-reference (Qref) value in a gearless variable speed wind turbine with permanent magnet synchronous generator. Methods. An effective modelling and control of the wind turbine with the suggested power converter is executed by utilizing MATLAB/Simulink software. The control scheme consists of both the wind turbine control and the power converter control. Simulation results are utilized in the analysis and deliberation of the ability of the control scheme, which reveals that the wind turbine generator has the capability to actively sustain an electric power grid network, owing to its ability to independently control active and reactive power according to applied reference values at variable wind speed. Practical value. This research can be utilized for assessing the control methodology, the dynamic capabilities and influence of a gearless variable-speed wind energy conversion system on electric power grids. A case study has been presented with a (3·10 MW = 30 MW) wind farm scheme.

Peltier cell (hereinafter PC) has undergone technological development since it's discovery by Joan C. Peltier in 1834, and from the point of view of theoretical physics they can be considered completely explored. They are commonly used for low-power cooling (for example car refrigerators) and for temperature control (controlled electronics cooling), ie mostly in low-power applications from the point of view of the power industry. We are currently experiencing enormous pressure to save energy and use waste heat, so the question arises as to whether it would not be possible to dust off the idea of 'energy' use of PC.

COVID-19 is likely to be the 2020s’ deadliest pandemic according to the World Health Organization (WHO). There have been more than 3.7 million confirmed deaths after 15 months spread. Besides the loss of human lives, COVID-19 has other unfavorable impacts on society, education, and the economy. Due to successive lockdowns and the continuous quarantines, the demands on power resources have reduced. Therefore, there is a need to investigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on electricity prices (EP). In this paper, a set of six economic factors that are affected by COVID-19 and affect EP are considered. These factors were fed into a functional link artificial neural network (FLANN) to model the relationships between them and the EP. An empirical equation was formulated to help decision makers and strategic developers in the electricity markets come up with more appropriate plans. Italy, the Czech Republic, and China were used as case studies in this research. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.

Important parameters of an induction motor drives include dynamics and efficiency. Both attributes are tightly associated with accurate acquisition of hardly measurable quantities such as magnetic flux (and its position) and motor torque. The mathematical model of the induction machine is used for calculation of these quantities. The model usually comprises of a set of differential equations, that have to be numerically solved inside drive's controller. Computation time requirement and accuracy of the resulting estimation are important parameters of the selected solver. For this purpose, Euler's method was usually used in engineering applications, but with increasing computational throughput of DSP, more complicated numerical methods can be applied too. This paper strives to compare Euler's method with 4 th order Runge-Kutta method.

  • Anotace:
This paper presents a mathematical model that is developed to economically optimize a small and a medium-sized local cogeneration system. This model was developed to find the economically optimal configuration of the cogeneration system with respect to state aid, which forms a significant part of the revenue for small and medium-sized systems. The model respects the production of heat, so it won't be exceeded the economically justifiable demand, which means that the same amount of heat will be produced as in the supply of heat through conventional sources, which is essential for obtaining the aid. Therefore, the model is suitable for use in the design of cogeneration systems with average seasonal heat demand up to 5 MW. These are typical hospitals, hotels, office buildings and small factories. The model can design an accumulation tanks and a bivalent heat source to cover the maximum and minimum peaks in heat requirements, it also respects the thermal losses of buildings and climatic data in the given location. It is also possible to design a system for the preparation of hot water during the summer months.

Today heavy duty trucks are designed and optimized towards a limited variance set of usage and for maximum payload. With European Commission's targets for reducing the consumption of fossil energy resources, increasing transport - and fuel efficiency, future trucks-trailers must be easily adaptable for each freight, load and mission. And during the operation phase, the vehicle combination automatically adjusts itself to the actual driving environment in terms of traffic situation, topology, and payload. The TRANSFORMERS project combines a modular approach for mission rightsizing by means of hybridization, truck engine downsizing and a trailer design that addresses simultaneously aerodynamics and load efficiency improvements. The overall goal is to achieve 25% energy load efficiency (in energy/km.tn) in a real world application taking into account the needs to maintain road infrastructure and traffic safety. This paper will give an introduction to the project, pre-standard for a hybrid on demand vehicle and its objectives towards greening surface transport.

Two parameters are essential for temperature calculations of heated objects: temperature of ambient air and mean radiant temperature of surrounding surfaces. In the case of solid surfaces the mean radiant temperature can be assessed as the weighted average of fourth powers of the absolute temperatures. Configuration factors are used as the weights. Outdoor appliances are affected by air temperature and the radiations of ground and sky. The paper deals with the assessment of the mean radiant temperature for two basic cases. An infinite cylinder with the axis parallel to ground serves as the model for ampacity phenomenon. The finite plane serves as the model of photovoltaic panels. Theoretical analysis and experimental results are presented in the paper and the results are discussed.

The Use of Regression Methods for Measurement and Diagnostics in Electrical Power Engineering

  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
The paper presents the principles and the utilization of regression methods for measurement using electrical quantities samples. Direct electrical devices parameters measurement in operation can be sometimes a hard or even impossible task. The presumption of electrical circuits linearity and harmonic signal component orthogonality allows us to determine the circuit parameters using the sampled data and the least-square regression method. Examples of the developed method utilization are given in the paper. The first example is devoted to harmonic filters equivalent circuit data assessment. The second one deals with the measurement of active losses in highly reactive devices e.g. arc-suppression coils.

Large power system disturbances and their consequences represent a challenging problem for power system operation, its security and reliability. This fact has reinforced interest in the new generation of monitoring systems. Synchronized Phasor Measurement System has emerged as a powerful tool to improve power systems performance and reliability and e.g. fault localization possibility. Data measured by PMU (Phasor measurement unit) are source of progressive research and can be used for network state modeling including lot of variable parameters. As the demand for electricity increases, there is a need to increase electricity generation, transmission, and distribution capacities to match the demand. While the location and construction of generation facility is relatively easy, it is becoming increasingly difficult to construct new lines. As a result, electric power authorities everywhere are searching for new ways to maximize the current-carrying capacity of power lines. The paper is divided into two parts: The first part introduces a general review of the parameters that have influence in the determination of the current-carrying capacity, to find a mathematical model to measure the ampacity of the overhead lines and the conductor temperature and analyze all the sensitivities with the main variables. Secondly, an electronic measurement device is proposed and some technical specifications for conductor ampacity and temperature data transfer and evaluation are introduced.

The usage of synchrophasor for optimised fault localization method

  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
Common methods for fault localization require for proper function a lot of specialized instruments. These special instruments should be permanently installed or moved to required distribution area. New fault location method needs only a few synchronously measured voltage and current phasors in the fault time for its proper function. The OHL parameters are used for more accurate calculation. The fault is located very quickly using relatively small amount of explained input data and a very special methods. This method can be performed on-line without the line to be switched off. The solving algorithm is based on matrix multiplication with discrete optimization. This is due to the fact that each line segment can be described as the matrix with OHL parameters. During the calculation the immediate fault rate is traced. The evaluation time strongly depends on the computer calculation capabilities and required accuracy.

  • Rok: 2007
  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
The paper deals with the induction heating modelling of materials that significantly exhibit magnetic hysteresis. Proposed mathematical solution is implemented for variables of electromagnetic field generally varying with time, considering the first order differential hysteresis loop model. Parameters of the model are obtained from the measurement of ferromagnetic materials by non-linear regression using Levenberg-Marquardt method. The main emphasis is laid on the verification of classical analytical and numerical methods - the nonlinearity of the system makes the description of the system by phasors impossible - and their specification comparing the designed mathematical simulation. However the study with simplified geometries is considered due to the extreme calculation time, the expansion for the complex and practical application types is feasible and proposed.

Series connection of n-port circuits can be easily solved using hybrid parameters of the circuits and corresponding H-matrices. Homogenous transmission lines can be then read as series connection of chosen number of parts of the same H-matrix description. If a fault (or illegal current consumption) occurs, the resulting H- matrix is the product of n-th power of H-matrix describing a regular section, H matrix describing the fault and m-th power of H-matrix describing a regular section. Because it is possible to know the phasors of the currents and voltages at the ends of the line and the fact that matrix product is not commutative, developed optimization methods allow to determine the position and character of the fault.

A large amount of transient's records in the electric network systems are nowadays available. Time records of these phenomena are acquired with special equipment - fault recorders. These equipments are triggered not only from protection devices, but also set to be triggered from circuit breakers operations or overvoltages. Obtained records are collected and automatically analyzed. This contribution describes several possible methods for the automatic analysis of these records. Main emphasis is laid on the method based on the calculation of real network parameters changes during the transient. This method exploits the differential equations knowledge determined from the electric system elements. The second approach is based on the tracking of the time intervals of transient corresponding with the solution of the mentioned differential equation.

Series connection of n-port circuits can be easily solved using hybrid parameters of the circuits and corresponding H-matrices. Homogenous transmission lines can be then read as series connection of chosen number of parts of the same H-matrix description. If a fault (or illegal current consumption) occurs, the resulting H-matrix is the product of n-th power of H-matrix describing a regular section, H-matrix describing the fault and m-th power of H-matrix describing a regular section. Because it is possible to know the phasors of the currents and voltages at the ends of the line and the fact that matrix product is not commutative, developed optimization methods allow to determine the position and character of the fault.

The intelligent power load will be a part of a hydrogen fuel cell operational characteristics testing set that has been installed at the FEL CVUT laboratory in Prague. This contribution deals with an intelligent load the parameters of which are being controlled from a PC through a USB port (or RS232, LPT). The intelligent load is designed as a single-phase reference load with an adjustable real power P and the power factor cos phi. The intelligent load basic circuit is an NC controlled parallel R - TCR (Resistor - Thyristor Controlled Reactor) circuit. The intelligent power load may also be used for other laboratory purposes. In this contribution I endeavor to point out the problems that one can meet when designing an intelligent load of the R-TCR type. The load presented here is being at the phase of calculations and design of the control algorithms. Its physical realization and testing phase comes next, within the oncoming weeks.

Induction Heating Modeling of Materials with Hysteresis

  • Publikace: RUPEC 2005. Praha: České vysoké učení technické v Praze, 2005. pp. 1-11. ISBN 80-239-5439-3.
  • Rok: 2005
  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
This paper focuses on the induction heating modeling of materials that exhibit magnetic hysteresis. Proposed mathematical solution is implemented for general time varying electromagnetic field variables, considering the first order differential hysteresis loop model. The main emphasis is laid on the verification of classical analytical and numerical methods - the nonlinearity of the system makes the description of the system by phasors impossible - and their specification comparing the designed mathematical simulation. However the study with simplified geometries was considered due to the extreme calculation time, the expansion for the complex and practical application types is feasible. There are proposed the coefficients describing the link between linear and hysteresis materials.

Mathematic Model of Current Measurement Transformer

  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
This paper describes mathematic model of current measurement transformer (CMT) for fast response protection device. The model takes into account real magnetic core properties, that means nonlinear function B=f(H). Undistorted transfer through CMT is very important for working of response protection device. We analyzed output current of CMT dependent on different value of load. Than we inquire into current silence.

Optimization Techniques in Electroheat Devices Design

  • Publikace: Sborník z 3. vědeckého sympózia elektroenergetika 2005. Košice: Technická univerzita v Košiciach, 2005. pp. 1-13. ISBN 9788055303994.
  • Rok: 2005
  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
The paper deals with the design of selected electroheat device as an optimization problem that in fact every creative design invention is. The design process represents the solving of some type of indirect task, exactly unsolvable and in addition the exact solution of the direct problem is unsolvable as well and numerical approximation seems to be -instead of designer's transcendental anticipation- the only way. Authors show the principles of the fitness function creation and finding optimal and sub-optimal parameters (for example the geometry, temperatures, air velocity) using genetic algorithms based on optimization techniques. Appliances examples of glass furnaces, paper drying and solar collector are presented.

The Model of Non-Linear Three-Phase Transformer

  • Pracoviště: Katedra elektroenergetiky
  • Anotace:
Three-phase transformer is a very expensive and important part of the electrical transmission and distribution systems and in many cases the properties of the transformer are essential for phenomena that can occur, i.e. short connection current form, overvoltages, ferroresonant processes etc. Classical methods fail if the non-linearity and hysteresis cannot be neglected. The paper deals with the time-domain mathematical model of the three-limb construction nonlinear transformer and its implementation in the POWER SYSTEM BLOCKSETŽ.
